Club News - June
Mid Summer Newsletter
It seems a long time ago that we were covered in snow and shivering in high winds and rain. The long range forecast is set fair and, fingers crossed, we will keep the pleasant weather that we currently have.
The course has stood up well and we have had some very positive reviews and comments from everybody- Thank you.
As the dry weather persists, along with the occasional dry breeze, we have started to ensure that we keep a good grass coverage across the playing surfaces. We have also applied a wetting agent to the greens, which helps to ensure that the water is absorbed better into the root zone and keeps the plant healthy. There are some dry spots on some greens on the top of banks but we are happy that we can keeps these areas in good health throughout.
We have changed our practices with the greens maintenance this year. We have already aerated the greens more often and have applied over 100 tonnes of top dressing to greens. We will continue to use this “little and often” practice and try and ensure that any disruption is kept to a minimum.
We are already looking to the winter and which projects we will be taking on. We have completed “phase 1” of the architects suggestions and will identify the areas to concentrate on in phase 2. Bunkers will be reviewed and we will also be looking to further develop and reshape the 9th hole.
We are always happy to be joined by the members on one of our course regular course walks and answer any questions that you may have. Please let the office know if would like to join us on Tuesday 3rd July at 7.30am.
PENTA Charity Golf Day
Just a reminder that our main sponsor for the Euro Pro event will be hosting their charity golf day on Thursday 28th June. The course and club will be closed all day so please let us know early if you would like us to try and arrange a reciprocal round at one of our network of clubs.
Members Golf Day's
As a member of CH we are offering each person the opportunity to book a golf day with us at a discounted rate throughout the year. This is for groups of 12 - 20 golfers and must be pre-booked via the office.
Please contact Matthew or John in the office for full details.
Scorecards and Pin Positions
We will be changing the pin positions on the scorecards at the beginning of August. This is to give greater variety and the green keepers the ability to mix up the locations based on ground and overhead conditions. We will change the flags to represent Front (Red), Middle (Yellow) and Back (Blue) Pin Positions.
As per David Williams report, we will also be looking to introduce an “orange” measured course. This will be a blend of the Yellow and Red tee positions, with the ability to be used for social and competition golf particularly in adverse conditions.
We are very happy to have received our new patio furniture and the changes to the beer range has been well received. A new menu will be in place for the start of July with a focus on locally sourced, homemade products with some healthy options.
We are planning our Christmas functions and menus and already have a number of bookings. If you are part of a group or wish to join one of our party nights then please let us know.
Enjoy a 1-course meal, with Tea & Coffee for just £7.00- the menu changes every week and all meals are homemade from locally sourced produce. Non-members are always welcome.
A choice of 2 roast meats, covered in a freshly made roast jus is guaranteed to make any Sunday a Super Sunday, but we also offer a fish dish as well. Advanced booking is highly recommended and can be made with the Bar on 0118 947 8600.
